Vallecito Overhead to Underground

 Purpose and Description

The single-phase line, on the east side of Vallecito Reservoir, is old, and a brittle conductor. The line runs through a heavily forested area, and is prone to outages from tree limbs, wind, and snow load.  To correct the problem, the La Plata Electric Association will construct a new 2.6 miles of 1/0 15 kV underground line.  As part of the project, the alignment will be moved from the hillside to the county road Right-of-Way and will be converted from overhead to underground. The drivers to convert to underground are to minimize tree trimming, and to improve fire mitigation along the line corridor that is heavily treed.  Other benefits include improved electrical reliability, electronic outage notification, electrical power redundancy, and marked improvement to County Road 501 on the east side of Vallecito Reservoir.  (Please click on detailed project drawing below.)  Construction will start the week of July 17th, 2023.
