 Morning Update

The DWR gage below the reservoir began showing much higher values (around 2500 cfs). Flows in Red Creek and the smaller tributaries have dropped significantly over the last 24 hours and could account for only about 50 cfs of difference. The Ignacio Gage readings have not shown corresponding large increases and track much more closely with the gate-curve values from the reservoir.

Use 1600 cfs as the release number from Vallecito. Verify all downstream flow readings with the USGS Ignacio Gage (link provided below). That gage represents flow just above the town of Ignacio; additional unmeasured inflows from Dry Creek and Beaver Creek will be present through town.

The high readings (including the 2480 cfs value) are FALSE and are most likely caused by Red Creek debris plugging the stilling-well outlet pipe. DWR is working on a solution, with assistance from others, and will correct the problem as soon as possible. Until then, continue to rely on the USGS Ignacio Gage as the guide for Pine River flows.

Our staff, local and BOR engineers have been calculating releases based on Reservoir capacity changes and the measured inflows above the reservoir. As of 11:00 pm on November 2, 2026, the release from Vallecito was being held at 1600 cfs. Releases may need to go up some today.

The reservoir is still slowly climbing and is expected to peak and then begin lowering sometime tomorrow (Wednesday). We will increase the release if the updated forecasts require it. All trends remain positive.

CR 501 remains closed but is expected to reopen today, if conditions allow. The Upper Pine River Fire District is assisting us with equipment crossings if necessary.

As soon as the gage issue is resolved and conditions stabilize, a more complete update will be issued.

Thank you for continuing to follow these updates.
